Charleston, South Carolina was remarkable. I think it’s safe to say it was everything we hoped it would be. Each street was a different rainbow. WIth houses from a hundred years ago, painted like your favorite colors from your childhood boxes of Crayola crayons. The city makes you feel like you are in a constant trance of romance. The coffee was always sweet, the water was always warm, and the smiles were always genuine. The busy streets didn’t overwhelm us like they normally would. Instead we spent hours on them, popping in and out of stores, munching on ice cream, and obsessively snapping photos. Maybe it was the warm weather, maybe it was the colors. Either way, we were into it. We also spent a sufficient amount of time lounging on beaches. Willow played like a puppy in the still water, swallowing too much salt water and loving every second of it. Our skin always tasted salty and we resorted to primarily wearing baseball caps.

One of our days was spent at Bull Island, a barrier island just off the coast. We dropped Willow off at doggie day care and caught the 9 o’clock ferry. The tour guide, Olivia, spent the thirty minute ferry ride telling us was we were in for, what kinds of wildlife we should look for, and her favorite spots on the map. We drenched ourselves in bug spray and spent more than five hours exploring. We were just feet from alligators, spotted a falcon, walked along the boneyard section of the beach, and ate lunch against a piece of drift wood.

Charleston had the best of everything. We had been talking about it forever, it felt good to check it off the list.

Bye!
